By the time I was ten years old, I was
already working along side my Dad and learning the plumbing, heating, and
electrical wiring trades in residential and commercial sites. At 17, I was a crew foreman
supervising on the job installations, and ever more fascinated with how truly
great homes were built. My love affair with housing and architecture was
already part of my life.
Two
years later I joined IBM at 19, and was one of 20 employees selected to attend
their full time 3.5 year Manufacturing Technology Training Program. During that
time I also completed my Associates Degree in Applied Electro-Mechanical
Technology, and did my undergrad work in Electrical Systems Engineering at
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
After
eight terrific years with IBM, working in Advance Manufacturing Engineering, I
formed and incorporated Van Winkle Builders, a residential and light commercial
construction company. Our mission was to provide outstanding custom design and
build services, as well as to provide for all facets of home construction and
repair.
Building
in planned communities, individual properties and at commercial sites, Van
Winkle Builders was known for its ability to translate an owner's vision of how
they wanted to live and how their home should look and feel, into that Dream Home reality. Quality,
Service, and an absolute dedication to customer satisfaction were our
hallmarks. As President of the company I was responsible for all Customer
Sales, Customer Satisfaction, marketing, banking relationships, Community
relations, and more. As our reputation for Great Homes and Great Customer Satisfaction grew, marketing
our services became easy since it was based on word of mouth and customer
testimonials. During that time I also served as the Secretary, Vice President,
and President of the Greene County Builders and Contractors Association. It
was in these many roles that I learned that my true talent was really using my
technical knowledge to build and implement solutions. In residential housing
that meant help define and refine the customer's Dream ...and then build it for
that customer, on time and in budget.
So

In
1979 I sold the company and joined Digital Equipment Corporation, as a Sales
Account Manager responsible for General Electric locations in and around the
Schenectady, New York area. Over the next thirteen years, I, along with my
teams, built many successful sales, marketing, support and integration teams,
all of which were recognized not only for their business achievements, but also
for their record of outstanding customer service and satisfaction.
It
was at Digital, working with some of the most demanding U.S. and International
Fortune 100 and 500 customers, and a team of great employees, that I honed my
sales and marketing skills, dedication to customer satisfaction and business
management skills. Years later when I was managing a $120,000,000 per year
organization, the model was still the same.....take the customer's vision.....
use our very best skill sets and make it a reality. Weather our customer was a
Wall Street Brokerage House, a State Agency, or a Small Business, inviolate
ethics, quality service, hard work and dedication to customer satisfaction were
again the hallmarks of these organizations.
Recruited
by Silicon Graphics to run the New England Region in 1993, and then later by
Shiva Corporation as OEM Sales Manager, and then as VP of Sales for an Internet
Software Company, I was now involved with leading edge Internet remote access
and Internet Protocol Switch technology business. Internet Marketing and Sales
was at the heart of my business, and that experience gives me.....and my
Clients a real edge in the latest marketing mediums and methods, and the
advantage of getting your home properly and fully exposed to all markets today.
Even
though I loved my work..... the yearning to get back to my true love
....residential housing and Dream Homes, was growing, still on hold, but
growing each day. Eventually that opportunity to return to Real Estate did
come, and shortly thereafter I found Harbour Point Yacht Club and worked with
our builder to refine the design and supervise the building our new home. We
have lived on Lake Lanier for several years now, and love the Lake, our
community, the people, and this area of Georgia!
